March and April can also be good but miss the cloud layer on some days. Peak monsoon (June to September) blocks visibility completely.
How to Plan Your Deomali Sunrise Trip
The key is to leave early - very early. We recommend leaving Pankajini Resort no later than 3:30 AM. The drive to the base of Deomali takes approximately 1.5 hours. From there, you walk or drive (depending on entry rules that season) to the peak. Arrival at the viewpoint by 5:30 AM gives you 30-45 minutes before sunrise for the best spots.
What to Carry
Temperature at the Deomali peak in winter can drop to 5 to 8 degrees Celsius. Wear warm layers that you can remove as the sun rises and things warm up. Carry a torch or headlamp for the early morning walk. Bring water and light snacks. If you have a camera, charge batteries the night before as cold temperatures drain them faster.
